Drama

Welcome to Drama

Exciting, emotive and explorative. Through drama, students create innovative pieces of work which explore world and social issues whilst also studying and perform play texts, using a range of modern practitioners.

In KS3 all Key Stage 3 students are taught Drama for 1 hour each week. Lessons are practical and centred around using strategies, techniques and a range of exciting and imaginative drama skills. From fundamental acting skills to the study of theatre practitioners, Key Stage 3 Drama at Uffculme School challenges the perception of drama and allows students to experience a wide range of types of this practical art form, as well as a deeper knowledge of theatre and its history.

The skills learnt in KS3 Drama will not only prepare students for Key Stage 4 and beyond, but are also invaluable across all other subject areas. Students are taught to engage imaginatively and intellectually with a range of drama forms and conventions through scripted and devised performances.

Students in KS4 have two lessons a week. The course emphasises and assesses drama process as well as the final product. GCSE Drama allows students to study drama in an academic setting, interrogating this art form and applying their knowledge and understanding to the process of creating and developing drama and to their own performance work.

GCSE Drama prepares students for the further study of Drama or Performing Arts courses as well as developing transferable skills desired by further education. We encourage our students to be independent learners, critical thinkers and effective decision makers – all personal attributes that will make them stand out as they progress through their education and into employment.

Extra Curricular Opportunities

Key Stage 3

In KS3 students can get involved in a whole host of fun filled extra-curricular activities including the Key Stage 3 Drama club. There are also many opportunities to see performances at local and London theatres.

Gifted and Talented Drama students also have the opportunity to attend additional Drama clubs.

Key Stage 4

Throughout KS4, there are a number of celebration events where we invite family and friends to come along and watch the students perform their pieces of work. There is also a weekly club that meets to support students with both written and practical drama coursework.

The extra-curricular timetable offers students from all years the opportunity to develop their passion for Drama, all of which run during lunchtimes.

All Year Groups

Every other year, students are given the incredible opportunity to audition for the highly prestigious school play. This is either a full school musical or a Shakespearian performance.
